Selection on MHC

The Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) is a class of genes involved in the immune defense of vertebrates. MHC genes are among the most prominent candidates for genes under natural (and, potentially, sexual) selection. My collaborators and I have studied a combination of short- and medium-term signatures in genetic data to suggest that a particular MHC class II gene in Alpine ibex might be under natural selection, conditionned on known and previously inferred demography.
